Advertising is a Waste of Resources – Group Discussion

Today our Group Discussion Topic was “Advertising a waste of Resources” which was among the selected topic for GD in Mu Sigma last year in our campus.
I want to start with the definition of Advertisement. It is something a promotional act that a company does to convey a message about the product and quality. Moreover sometimes company does the advertisement so that customer can recall the product quickly while he goes to buy this. So I totally disagree with the thought that advertisement is a waste. Indeed it helps the company to create brand value in consumers’ minds.

DOve India

Let me put through an example. Dove nowadays has a brand value. But it was launched just 5 years back. Then they did advertisement and invested a lot of money. They distributed sample through newspaper. And I am lucky I have got more than 2 times. They may have wasted their resources at that time but now they are earning it back. Now the same Dove is selling their in high price and placed itself into a recognized and elite brand after they brought Katrina for the advertisement.
There are many examples. I can give examples from every company for every brand. Now the question comes why advertisement again and again. So let me clear this too. Let’s take the example of Nokia Lumia. They run a huge campaign with Windows Phone to promote their models. They invested a huge amount of money and got positive response in Indian Mobile Market. Not if they stop promoting or advertisement in India, their sales would definitely go down. We have a new model every 2nd day. No one will remember Nokia Lumia after 3 months if they stop advertisement. Some another company like HTC, Sony, and LG will take the consumer’s mind and while purchasing a product consumers will recall Sony or LG quickly. So Nokia would like to lose its royal consumers. So they have to keep advertising. Though we do not have any machine or technique to calculate the profit through advertisement but it is definitely a necessary tool to get into consumer mind.

If you go to Indian Villages, you will find people asking for Colgate instead of Toothpaste. They will ask for Lifebuoy instead of bathing soap. Why? Because the advertisements have done its work. People can easily recall the product and company gets its advantage. Colgate from last few years is in the top most position in India Brand Value. So in my opinion before launching the product company has to invest huge amount to promote the product and after launching they have to put money regularly for ads to keep the product alive in consumers’ minds. Thank you!

Corruption is the price we pay for Democracy – Group Discussion

IndiaToday I have chosen ‘Corruption is the result of Democracy’ as our Group Discussion. All we know by Democracy is by the definition given by Great A. Lincoln. He once said that ‘Democracy is for the people by the people’ and yes it’s true. We choose our own MP or MLP and they further choose PM or President for India. Ultimately we the common people make one common man so powerful and give so many responsibilities. If he does not work honestly we can remove him or throw out from the system in next election. So Democracy gives common man a power to vote.
India
But now days we can’t refuse to accept that Democracy in India has witnessed rise in Corruption. I totally agree with the thought that Democracy is the risen for Corruption. In our near country China, they have punished their Railway Minister for corruption. At the same time, India had seen that our Railway Minister had just resigned from his post, when his own nephew was caught red hand. People chosen by people are misusing their power. They become king for next 5 years. They make laws and decide which law should be improves. Take an example for 2 laws. First is regarding ‘Lokpal Bill’. Since 3 decades this bill is in the dustbin of Parliament. Our ministers just discuss about this and then slept off. Recently many whistle blowers like Anna ji and Kerjiwal ji have raised this topic and they are fighting for this. If Government listen to them and make the law for the people, that’s the true Democracy in my opinion. Similar law is being demanded for Rapist but Government is busy in looting this country. 2nd law is about RTI law. When RTI ordered the Political Parties to come under RTI, all party voted against it and they made some changes in the RTI act and refused to public their info. Then where is the Democracy??
In true sense of Democracy, I would like to say that ‘It should be by the common people for the common people’. Common people should have power to make or demand for any law if they need. If they need protection by a strong law against Rapist, then why should not Government listen to them? If we people are bearing with Corruption then why should not Government make some law against it? In India, Democracy gives a power to vote only. That’s it. We common people can’t take part in any decision. If we fight, police will throw us in jail.
Last but not the least I do not believe in Democracy. In my opinion either Government should be honest enough or this Democracy should be ended. Why every Democratic Country complains about Corruption because the misuse of the power we people give to their hand. If there is a person all above these ministers to control them, then only they would work properly. There could be a man like President or a law like Jan Lokpal or a committee like RTI or a lawmaker like Supreme Court. They should be given enough power to investigate and punish the culprits. But in India we have everything, but they are like ‘Caged Parrot’. They just follow the order of Government. We have seen cases about CBI and RTI and the funniest thing is about President. He is just there to give away awards and tour the world. Since my childhood I have never seen a President working in any sense. He is the supreme of this nation. We can also blame him for what happening in India.
I want to see a corruption free and prosperous country. No matter whatever we have to pay but we need some law against these devils otherwise tomorrow every person will lose their faith on ‘Democracy’.

Should India break Diplomatic Ties with Pakistan? – Group Discussion

Today Group Discussion topic is “Is India a soft state when it comes to handling with Pakistan” or “Should India break Diplomatic Ties with Pakistan?” or “Should We Pursue our Policy of Dialogue with Pakistan?”.
This topic is hot now days, as Pakistan is violating cease fire again and again. They have violated the act 19 times in recent 5 days. So this is a hot topic to discuss.
I completely agree with the statement that India is showing a big heart to handle Pakistan. Take a tour from 1947, after the formation of Pakistan. Muslim People demanded for new country and Pakistan was formed. Indian Government gave Crore of Rupees for establishment. Note that at that time 1 INR was equal to 1 Dollar. Indian Government gave everything and declared our nation Secular Nation, means Muslim people can also live in India.

Indo Pakistan

I am not saying that India has not committed any mistake. Attack on Pakistan to give freedom to Bangladesh was really a conflict issue. But we can’t change the history. Bangladesh People were tortured and were killed. So they needed freedom. 2nd issue was Kashmir. So Pakistan got many reasons to fight with India but India should also not tolerate them at any cost. We have seen that every terror attack in India is linked to Pakistan. Even today a terrorist has been caught at Indo Nepal border, who was carrying Pakistan Passport. So Pakistan is helping our enemies. They provide weapons and train them.
I am not saying that we should go for war as it will cause serious damage to both countries as both are having Nuclear Weapons. But we can take strong actions against Pakistan. Let me put some points.
Regarding cease fire attack: In this year 2013, Pakistan has violated ceasefire again and again. But our ministers are letting our brave soldiers to die there. Our soldiers should have freedom that if they violate first, give them our message that we won’t tolerate.
Recently Pakistan had taken away 2 of our braves heads and our Government did not do anything. Now they have killed 6 people injuring many one. Still no action. It brings shame to the country. We should stop every relation with Pakistan. We should not allow their people to visit India lets it be Player or Singer. They take money from India, pay taxes to Pakistan Government and with that money Pakistan Government provide weapon to terrorist. So directly or indirectly, if we provide job to Pakistani People we are killing our own people. So let’s stop this.
We can get a lesson from Israel. What Israel has done? How it become super power in that region? What they do if their neighbor tries to enter their boundary?
Last but not the least, sitting in an AC room with 20 NSG commandos around you, will not give a little bit sense of fear but please try to feel the pain of our soldiers at least once. They keep our motherland safe at a temperature of -40 degree, take bullet and die for this nation. And we only condemn the act of Pakistan. Jai Hind.

Mu Sigma Aptitude Paper for Placement

We had Mu Sigma in our campus on 25th July 2013 here in IIITM Gwalior. Actually they had given contract to Cocubes.com and a team of 2 guys from cocubes.com came to our campus to conduct the test. I am going to give a brief scenario of the test. Will give an idea about the paper and the complexity of the paper. Visit also – Mu Sigma Group Discussion, Video Synthesis and Interview Round and Tips for Mu-Sigma GD. How to face Mu Sigma Group Discussion Round & watch video.
In first sight the paper looked tough. We had 20 questions and 30 minutes. A timer was there on the web page. So you can always count down your remaining time, which makes students more nervous. The question paper was divided into 3 sections. 8 Questions for basic Aptitudes, 7 from Data Interpretation and 5 from C Programing. In my paper, most of the questions were from Time- Distance, Time – Work, Probability, and Permutation. +1 for each question and 0.5 negative marks for each wrong answer. I would suggest that do not attempt all questions. Try to do 12-15 questions but correctly. That enough.
Questions for Aptitudes:
1. In a bag, there are 8 blue balls and 6 red. 2 balls are picked up without replacement. So what is the probability of picking red ball in 2nd attempt knowing that a blue ball has already been extracted?
2. There is 100 kg of food for 25 people, which will end in 2 days. So how many days it will take to finish 200 kg, if there are 30 people? (Not exact words but sense is similar. Answer was very confusing. Comment below the answer if you get it. Its : 31/3)
Question from Data Interpretation:
There were 7 questions. All easy but calculation was there. Sample questions:
There is a university which has total of 20,334 UG and 11,232 PG students. Below is a diagram showing % of UG students in various branch. Branches are R, S, T and V.
Mu Sigma Paper
Visit also – Mu Sigma Group Discussion, Video Synthesis and Interview Round
1. What is the ration of UG students in R and UG students in T.?
2. What is difference between UG R students and PG S students? (PG chart was also given)
Another question: There was a Bar chart table and questions were put from that chart. All easy just calculation.
3rd part was C programing. There were 5 questions. If you have basic knowledge of C, you can crack it. All questions from Loop, Array, and String.
Sample Questions.
1. What is the output if X=8;
Int main ()
{
y=1;
while (y<=x)
{
y=y*2
}
}
2. Which state is correct for the statement Array Ar [10]= {3,3,3}
a. Ar [4] will be 3.
b. Ar [10] will be 3.
c. Ar [9] is the last element.
d. None of the these.
There were 3 more questions which I can’t remember but they were having only error. One C programing questions was having a statement n+ (it should be n++). So in that case the answer would be ‘No Output’.

Uttarakhand flood disaster: Act of Human or Nature – Group Discussion

Today I was reading some articles and found a wonderful topic. So I though, it could be our Group Discussion Topic and I selected this. The topic is “Uttarakhand flood disaster- Act of Human or Nature”. In last month of July 2013, we witnessed of the deadliest flood in North India that ruined more than 5000 lives and many bridges, houses, hotels. As I have not visited to Uttarakhand yet I want to support the fact that we can’t help when Natural acts come into picture. I want to speak in favor of Natural Act.
Uttarakhand Flood-Deepesh Singh
Earlier I thought of speaking against Nature and was trying to blame Human but after reading an article in Economics Times, I changed my mind and found some crucial points which I want to put today.
Uttarakhand: “Devo ki Bhumi” means ‘The land where God lives’. The state is full of natural resources like water and there are many temples as well. The main source of income for this state is Hydro Power and Tourist. The flood we are taking about is of June 2013. It claimed many lives. More than 5000 are feared dead or missing. Many dead bodies came floating in Ganga River. It damages an estimated property of 3000 Crore, which include infrastructures like Roads, Bridges, hotels and many villages. People are blaming Human Act. We people think that Government makes Dams, Drill Mountains to make tunnel and roads, which weaken the mountains and landslides happen, true and they have to. We use electricity which is essential for us. If we oppose the Government decision on dams, then we should stop using electricity. We argue that we can make Solar Power station but it requires lot of barren land and an army of workers to clear the plate regularly, which it costly.
1st point that people make is about dams. They use to say that dams caused the flood. Indian states like Uttarakhand, Arunachal Pradesh, and Himachal Pradesh are full of water resources. Their geographic strictures make human easy to make dams and the current or fall of rivers are also very high enough to produce electricity naturally. The job that remains is to divert the river, to pass the water through tunnel where machine or turbines are situated. For that we drill mountains and that can cause landslides. Very true, but we have to. The demand of electricity is increasing day by day. We are becoming hungry for electricity and government has to provide it.
2nd point that comes into picture is that making roads and other infra cause the flood. If you look at Uttarakhand, you will find that even today 40% (ET Jul 13) have not roads. They are inaccessible. So making roads is not harmful for people. They are a part of development. We have to connect all villages to nearest major cities so that they can remain in contact of best facilities like Hospital, Education or government offices.
At last I want to say that if we want development we have to pay for it. Even developed countries like Japan, Ukraine witnessed Nuclear Disasters which are more dangerous than Natural Flood. Flood damages property for once but nuclear disaster for forever. Everything has it pros and cons. So human should do all kind of essential things, which are necessary for development but with precaution so that we can avoid such calamities.
If you are looking for more points. Go here. Act of Nature.
If you want to blame Human read this article. Act of Human
